Impoundment Lot Officer I

General Description:

Assists in receiving, securing, and releasing vehicles that have been impounded for parking violations. Incumbents can accurately complete routine records and reports.

Principal Duties:

  • Works customer service window to handle inquiries and transactions in the release and/or access of vehicles.
  • Performs inquiries on the NCIC computer terminal.
  • Performs inquiries on the branch's PC network.
  • Follows written and/or oral instructions from management.
  • Provides accurate information to authorized personnel regarding the status of towed vehicles using the DLMS system. Accurately update information in the DLMS system as the status of a vehicle changes.
  • Conducts physical lot counts and bed checks of the lot and accurately complete the required paperwork.
  • Monitors and attends front (pedestrian and vehicle) gates for security and safety purposes.
  • Directs tow drivers to available spaces on lot.
  • Receives TVR’s, Live stop forms, and keys from tow operators. Promptly completes the lot officer's portion of the handheld legibly and accurately. Place label/sticker on windshields of impounded vehicle with prescribed information. Upon completion, immediately forwards the file to the office for processing.
  • Escorts customers to their vehicles for access and/or release purposes. Whenever necessary, removes license plates from vehicles.
  • Performs mailing procedures relating to impounded vehicles.
  • Files and/or distributes records and reports.
  • Assists in keeping entire facility clean.

  • Works office telephone console in a professional manner.
  • Transports records and/or reports, vehicles, items, officer supplies, passengers, etc. to other destinations in a PPA vehicle.
  • Monitors to keep out unauthorized personnel and check for signs of forced entry or vandalism to vehicles and PPA property.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner.
  • Keeps management personnel apprised of lot/officer operations.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Snow removal from impounded vehicles, and around lot walkways.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to type efficiently and in a timely manner and have some knowledge of operating computers
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Minimum Acceptable Training, Experience, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

Working Hours: Schedule: TBD. This position is considered essential personnel and operates 24 hours/7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Applicant must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are eight hours, including a half-hour paid lunch. All employees must bid for shift assignments that are awarded based on seniority by classification date (length of time in this position).
