General Description:

The Philadelphia Parking Authority is seeking qualified individuals to fill the Automotive Mechanic vacancies in the Fleet Operations department. The Auto Mechanic is responsible for Maintaining all PPA vehicles and equipment, including performing all state inspections and emission testing. Mechanics work at the direction of the Fleet Manager, Deputy Manager, and Head Supervisor.

Principal Duties:

  • Uses hand and power tools of the automotive trade to assist a full performance mechanic in performing maintenance and repairs.

  • Assemble equipment and materials needed to begin and complete work assignments.

  • Clean equipment and stock maintenance vehicles with tools and supplies for field repairs.

  • Perform all state and emissions testing on PPA vehicles according to PA State regulations.

  • Conduct routine repairs on all PPA vehicles and equipment, prioritizing safety. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, rear differentials, and electronic systems. This work supports the functionality and longevity of each asset.

  • Ensure all PPA vehicles and equipment meet all State and Federal regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of automobile systems

  • Basic proficiency with hand tools

  • Familiarity with power tools and diagnostic scanners

  • Knowledge of the City of Philadelphia

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Must possess a basic set of hand tools

  • Ability to tow all PPA vehicles

  • Capable of performing work that may require heavy lifting

Minimum Acceptable Training, Experience, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Valid Driver’s License required

  • Must possess a CDL license or obtain one within the first year of employment

  • Minimum of two (2) years of automotive experience with advanced knowledge of automobiles and off-road equipment

  • Valid PA State Inspection, and Emissions License required

  • Must be willing to obtain a Class 7 Inspection License within acceptable approved time frame.

Selection Criteria:

Internal Applicants:

  • 35% - ASSESSMENT TEST, (COMPUTERIZED)
  • 50% - ORAL INTERVIEW,
  • 05% - ATTENDANCE,
  • 10% - LATEST ANNUAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Applicants who have at least ten (10) years of service will have four (4) points added to their total score. Applicants who achieve a combined score of36 points from the assessment test, employee evaluation and attendance,based on the weight each category is given, will be invited to the oral interview phase of the process. Only those applicants with a combined total score of 70 will be placed on the eligibility list.
