Persons Eligible:

Internal Candidates: Current employees of the Philadelphia Parking Authority who have been in their current position for at least six months and have satisfactorily completed their probationary period for the position currently held. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements. Employees currently on the Excessive Use of Sick Leave list will not be considered for this position.

External Candidates: Anyone who meets the minimum requirements

The Airport Operations Division of the PPA has an opening for one (1) or more full-time maintenance supervisor position. The primary responsibilities of a maintenance supervisor are first-line supervisory responsibilities over maintenance personnel assigned to the airport. The maintenance supervisor duties are mission-critical and are related to providing clean and safe: facilities, sidewalks, roadways, and land under Authority jurisdiction at the airport. Work is performed in and around indoor and outdoor environments in all types of weather conditions. The maintenance supervisor receives general supervision and assignments primarily from the manager of facilities. The maintenance supervisor will assist in any work that can be performed by the employees under his/her supervisor when necessary.

The maintenance supervisor will spend the majority of the workday in the field, providing direct supervisory oversight to maintenance personnel. This includes issuing assignments, training and ensuring that maintenance personnel are properly performing their job duties and always following proper procedures. The maintenance supervisor is responsible for monitoring the parking facilities in the field to ensure that all garages and the Economy parking facilities are maintained and cleaned by assigning personnel to the daily tasks to meet this objective. The maintenance supervisor must be diligent in providing the proper training and oversight necessary to meet these objectives.

The maintenance supervisor will coordinate parking and traffic access with contractors, vendors, and other Authority departments, when necessary, by assisting in the relocation of solar signs, barricades, traffic cones, and other parking/traffic/facilities related equipment or devices. The maintenance supervisor is required to complete various types of reports and therefore must be

able to write and communicate legibly without assistance. Any unusual issues or situations in the field related to the parking operations such as signs, equipment, personnel, inventory, PPA property, suspicious activity, must be handled and/or reported promptly by the maintenance supervisor to the manager on duty.

The maintenance supervisor position is a mission-critical position. Therefore, the maintenance supervisor must report to work for weather related and other emergencies when declared by the PPA executive director and/or City of Philadelphia. The maintenance supervisor must be able to work weeknights, weekends and holidays as required.

Principal Duties:

  • Direct supervision of maintenance employees assigned to the airport operations division of the Authority.
  • Daily meetings and/or interactions with personnel to issue work schedules and assignments.
  • Ensures all personnel are in proper uniform and are complying with safety standards.
  • Performs daily inspections of vehicles assigned to maintenance to ensure that they are properly maintained.
  • Maintains an inventory of maintenance supplies to ensure adequate stock is on hand in order for employees to complete assigned tasks.
  • Directs and assists employees in the field during snow removal operations or other severe weather conditions.
  • Enforces all code of conduct, safety, and standard operating procedures for maintenance personnel.
  • Ensures that all equipment, vehicles, and supplies are properly utilized, maintained, and accounted for.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively supervise front line employees in the field in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of the airport’s geography in order to maintain and clean the garages.
  • Must ensure that no unsafe acts are committed or undertaken by personnel under the supervisor’s direct supervision.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise information to employees and customers.
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in order to complete reports and to issue work assignments.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and address problems in the field.
  • Ability to apply clear and concise written or oral instructions to employees or patrons.
  • Ability to operate and train employees on the use of various types of equipment such as forklifts, lawn mowers, power washers, scissor lifts, weed trimers, line painting machines, etc.
  • Must be able to use various types of hand and power tools for basic maintenance assignments.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including lifting or pushing objects up to 35 lbs. without difficulty.
  • Must have safe driving skills and the ability to operate a motor vehicle in tight and congested conditions.
  • Ability to multitask and handle unforeseen situations that may arise.

Working Hours: PPA airport parking is a 24/7/365-day operation. Applicants must be available to work all shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies when declared by the PPA Executive Director and/or City of Philadelphia.

Minimum Acceptable Training, Experience, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • A combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
