Senior Cost Accountant

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Summary:
Unical is looking for an experienced detail-orientated Senior Cost Accountant to join our team. As part of the Finance organization, the Senior Cost Accountant will perform various cost accounting and GL functions. As a key member of the team, the Senior Cost Accountant will serve as a finance liaison for our business operations. The role will be responsible for monitoring inventory, preparation and analysis of various cost reports while also maintaining and contributing to the improvement of cost accounting processes and procedures essential to the business. The role will also be responsible for certain month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. The ideal candidate will possess some understanding of lot accounting while being self-motivated, flexible and can thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Collect, Analyze and interpret financial data related to cost of goods sold, including material, labor and overhead
• Oversee the evaluation and management of the company’s costing techniques
• Prepare monthly journal entries related to close and routine inventory and cost valuations
• Perform detailed analysis of inventory and related COGS accounts to ensure accuracy and validity
• Develop and maintain standard labor rates for the Company’s internal repair station
• Monitor and assess financial performance to help ensure accuracy of the Company’s costing approach
• Help develop and maintain performance metrics for repair operations, including labor and overhead variance analysis
• Coordinate physical inventory counts and assist with cycle count tracking and reporting
• Analyze inventory count results and reconcile differences and propose necessary adjustments
• Work with cross-functional partners to evaluate financial performance and assist management in making informed decisions around pricing, resources and other needs
• Manage and evaluate the Company’s inventory reserve and release process
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
• Support interim and year-end audits by working directly with external auditors and internal partners
• Perform ad-hoc projects and analysis related to inventory and GL requests

Required Qualifications:
• 5 years plus of accounting experience required, of which at least 3 years are cost related
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Strong US GAAP knowledge
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel
• Experience in product costing, inventory management, and variance analysis
• Experience in analyzing cost movements in ERP systems
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
• Ability to implement and make enhancements to current policies
• Excellent written, verbal, and social communication skills
• Able to build and deliver effective ad hoc reporting, analysis, and presentations
• Highly motivated, self-starter with proven ability to thrive under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines
• High level of integrity and work ethic
• Demonstrate the ability to resolve accounting concerns
• Ability to work effectively and independently in a dynamic environment
• Ability to execute and follow through to completion and documentation
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:
• CPA Preferred
• Mix of public and industry experience preferred
• Aviation experience a plus
• Experience working with ERP system, Quantum a plus

Location: Glendale, AZ - Onsite, No Remote or Hybrid Schedule.

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time working with a computer.
• Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 20lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, or walking.
