Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for managing the underwriting and servicing of commercial accounts, for assigned districts, according to company and departmental goals, objectives, and guidelines to obtain profitable underwriting results while meeting the needs of members and agents.  This position is also responsible for training and providing support to the underwriting staff, handling specialized underwriting projects, and handling other functions as delegated by the Commercial Underwriting Manager

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

 

Provide support in analyzing new and existing business with regards to acceptability, degree of risk, loss history, and other underwriting information in order to produce an Underwriting profit defined by underwriting management.

 

Make underwriting decisions in compliance with departmental procedures, company guidelines, binding limitations, reinsurance restrictions, and Texas Department of Insurance regulations.

 

Manage and monitor the work of the Underwriters and Analysts within the assigned districts.

 

Delegate responsibilities and distribute job assignments to staff within the assigned districts.

 

Oversee the training and development of Underwriters and Analysts within the assigned districts and assist in other underwriting training efforts as needed.

 

Evaluate employee’s job performance and conformance to guidelines, procedures, and regulations.

 

Work with other Underwriting District Managers to document and monitor procedures to maximize efficiency and consistency in application of underwriting guidelines.

 

Successfully cross-train in all commercial line products as defined by underwriting management.

 

Handle large and/or complex accounts as assigned.

 

Review, investigate, and respond to coverage questions, claim reports and notifications, Agent errors and omissions, and consumer complaints as directed by the Commercial Underwriting Manager.

 

Participate in special projects or research activities as assigned.

 

Promptly report problems and provide recommendations with solutions to the Commercial Underwriting Manager.

 

Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and the company’s underwriting philosophy to sales staff, insureds, and applicants.

 

Communicate with employees of other departments regarding transactions related to underwriting.

 

Develop and maintain positive internal and external business relationships.

 

Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 


Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.

Five years of Underwriting experience preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.

CPCU designation preferred.

Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strong time management and organization skills.

Strong problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills.

Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Ability to train, mentor, guide, and motivate others.

Ability and willingness to learn and extend skills.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status, under the company Driving and Safety Policy.
