Job Responsibilities:

This position will lead the creation and maintenance of the enterprise data solution roadmap reflective of company’s organizational vision, goals, and objectives by assessing business needs and goals to develop data strategies, building models, and participating in the data architecture underpinning the data governance efforts of the Company.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Collaborating with the creation and implementation of a data governance strategy that aligns with the organization’s business strategy, security interests and data requirements that follow industry standards.

Collaborate with other data professionals, such as data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and data stewards to deliver data solutions, develop standards, and support data governance initiatives.

Define and enforce data policies and standards such as data quality, data security, data privacy, and data ethics.

Establish and manage data quality and data lineage programs to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and traceability.

Develop and maintain data models, data catalogs, data dictionaries, and data glossaries to document and communicate the data architecture and data definitions.

Design and build data pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes, and data streams to support data ingestion, integration, transformation, and analysis.

Create and maintain the data architecture of our cloud-based systems, ensuring data quality, security, and accessibility.

Research and evaluate new data technologies and trends such as cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence. Recommend solutions that meet the Company’s data needs and goals.

Support database administrators, network designers, and Information Systems (IS) personnel to create effective and secure methods for data backup and recovery.

Assist all areas of IS in recruitment of technical talent.

Work with teams to improve employee knowledge and skills for future organization growth. 

Coach, mentor, and guide employees to be empowered and productive.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and substantial experience as a data architect, data engineer, or a similar role.

Strong knowledge of database structure systems and data mining, preferably with a financial institution or insurance company.

Familiarity with data governance, data security, and data quality standards and best practices.

Knowledge of data regulations and compliance standards, such as NACHA, NIST, or PCI.

Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of system development lifecycle and agile development industry best practices.  Related certifications are a bonus.

Experience in cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and knowledge of their data services and capabilities.

Experience designing and building data pipelines, data warehouses, and data streams.

Must possess independent judgment and decision-making skills required to analyze complicated factual situations, apply sound principles, and develop solutions.

On-going ability to keep abreast of changing regulations, policies, and procedures affecting data architecture.

Knowledge of data modeling tools and techniques, such as ERD, UML, or SQL.

Proficiency in SQL, Oracle, and data visualization tools.

Experience in data governance frameworks, methodologies, and tools such as DAMA, DMBOK, or Alation.

Familiarity with data programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik.

Technical knowledge in the area’s development tools, work management tools, release and testing automation, and reporting.

Ability to maintain a long-term strategic focus while working on short-term tactical goals.

Solid business and technical understanding of insurance-based applications, networks, end points, servers, mainframes, and databases.

Self-starter with leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Strong project management, interpersonal, relationship building, collaboration and influencing skills.

Proven track record of successfully managing and implementing architecture and solutions as part of an overall project team.

Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Must be able to interface, influence, and coordinate work efficiently and effectively with business colleagues at all levels.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator status under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Use of PC, telephone, copy machine, fax, and other office equipment over six (6) hours per day.

Extended periods of sitting and concentration.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasional long, irregular hours.

Occasional travel by auto or other public transportation.

Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.

Provide after-hours problem resolution when required.

Travel as required.
