Position Summary

Sunshine Community Health Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our clinical team. Medical Assistants provide hands-on clinical and administrative support to our Medical and Behavioral Health teams and help create a welcoming, efficient, and patient-centered experience.

Depending on education, certification, experience, and demonstrated skills, candidates may be hired at the Medical Assistant I, II, or III level.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and room patients for Medical and Behavioral Health visits.
• Obtain and document vital signs and other patient information.
• Assist providers with examinations and clinical procedures.
• Administer medications and perform other clinical duties as directed and within scope of practice.
• Perform blood draws, EKGs, and other clinical support tasks as applicable to assigned duties.
• Assist with patient education and help patients actively participate in their care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and support efficient clinical workflows.
• Work closely with Medical, Behavioral Health, and support staff as part of a team-based care model.
• Provide compassionate, trauma-sensitive, and culturally respectful patient care.
• Follow SCHC safety, HIPAA, quality, infection-control, and compliance requirements.
• Perform other duties within the employee's training, credentials, scope of practice, and assigned workflows.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical assistant training, equivalent education, or qualifying on-the-job training as determined by SCHC clinical leadership.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to perform clinical and administrative duties appropriate to the assigned Medical Assistant level.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients, providers, and other members of the healthcare team.

Medical Assistant Levels

• Medical Assistant I: Entry-level position. A Certified Medical Assistant credential is not required at hire; the required CMA certification course must be started within the first year of employment with SCHC.
• Medical Assistant II: Certified Medical Assistant credential required unless otherwise approved by the Chief Nursing Officer based on qualifying experience.
• Medical Assistant III: Certified Medical Assistant credential required unless otherwise approved by the Chief Nursing Officer based on qualifying experience. This level may also include training, mentoring, or designated supervisory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in the healthcare field.
• Experience with electronic medical records.
• Phlebotomy, EKG, medication administration, or other applicable clinical skills.
• EMT II/III or paramedic experience may be considered toward qualification.

Employment Health Requirements

To support the health of our community, patients, and staff, SCHC requires proof of completed vaccine series or serologic test results for MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Hepatitis B, as well as TB screening, prior to employment.
