SUMMARY:

The Facilities Technician (Maintenance & Custodial) is a full-time, dual-function position responsible for supporting safe, clean, and functional healthcare environments across all SCHC facilities and locations. This role is scheduled for eight (8) hours per day, with approximately four (4) hours dedicated to general maintenance duties and four (4) hours dedicated to custodial services, based on operational needs. The position supports patient safety, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and continuity of clinic operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance Duties (Approximately 4 Hours Daily)

  • Perform general building maintenance across all clinic facilities and locations, including interior and exterior repairs as assigned, to support uninterrupted clinical operations.
  • Inspect, monitor, and assist with maintenance of critical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, boiler systems, generators and transfer switches, and fire suppression systems, in accordance with applicable safety standards and organizational policies.
  • Provide basic support and coordination for dental and medical equipment, including routine inspections, minor troubleshooting, and communication with vendors, while following infection control and safety requirements.
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to receive, document, prioritize, and complete work orders and preventive maintenance activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of organizational vehicles as assigned, including documentation of inspections and reporting safety concerns.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities related to facility systems, equipment failures, or weather-related events as assigned.
  • Fill in as needed for clinic courier duties.

Custodial Duties (Approximately 4 Hours Daily)

  • Clean, disinfect, and sanitize exam rooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas in accordance with established cleaning schedules, infection prevention protocols, and organizational policies.
  • Perform routine floor care, including sweeping, mopping, washing, buffing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning to maintain safe and accessible clinic environments.
  • Properly collect, remove, and dispose of trash, recycling, and shredding materials in accordance with clinic procedures.
  • Clean and maintain furniture, fixtures, windows, screens, and light fixtures; replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance staff with exterior upkeep, including sweeping debris, washing walkways, and supporting basic landscaping activities to ensure safe access to buildings.
  • Maintain janitorial equipment, tools, and storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Monitor janitorial supply inventory, maintain awareness of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) locations, and report supply needs or new products to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.

COMPLIANCE, SAFETY, AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all OSHA safety standards, including proper chemical handling, labeling, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe work practices.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance by safeguarding patient privacy and confidentiality while working in clinical and administrative areas.
  • Support HRSA compliance by maintaining facilities that are safe, clean, functional, and accessible for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Accurately record attendance, hours worked, work orders, and assigned tasks in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clinical staff, and vendors regarding maintenance needs, safety concerns, and service priorities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or the equivalent, at least 18 years old and 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

GENERAL:

To ensure the health of our community, patients, and staff, SCHC requires proof of completed vaccine series or serologic test results for MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella), Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis and Hepatitis B, as well as TB screening, prior to employment.
