SUMMARY:

The Peer Support Specialist will provide recovery-oriented support to individuals with substance use disorders. Utilizing their own lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist will offer hope, motivation, and guidance through individual and group support, advocacy, and resource linkage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Peer Support and Mentorship:

  • Establish supportive relationships with peers based on shared experience and mutual respect.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to peers in developing recovery goals and strategies.
  • Encourage and support peers in their recovery journey by sharing personal experiences and strategies for managing mental health and/or substance use challenges.

Advocacy and Resource Navigation:

  • Assist peers in navigating the mental health and substance use treatment systems.
  • Advocate for peer needs and preferences within service planning and delivery.
  • Work with clinic Community Health workers and our SDOH Director to connect to community resources etc.

Group Facilitation:

  • Plan and facilitate peer-led support groups and educational workshops.
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for group members to share and learn.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of peer interactions and progress.
  • Report any concerns or issues to the supervising clinician in a timely manner.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on peer needs and program improvements.

Training and Development:

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in peer support and recovery-oriented services.

Ethical Standards and Confidentiality:

  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality guidelines as outlined by SAMHSA and organizational policies.
  • Respect the privacy and dignity of all peers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent. Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire. Preferred experience in peer support, advocacy, or related field and bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
