SUMMARY:

This position provides direct clinical support to the Dentist and dental clients. Ensures a safe work and treatment environment. Monitors supply inventory and orders supplies as indicated, according to approved budget. Chair-side duties are under direct supervision of the dentist. Administrative and maintenance duties are under the supervision of the Dental Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares patients for dental examination, seating and taking vital signs as necessary
  2. Prepares tray setups for dental services
  3. Assists at chair side in all dental services
  4. Takes and mounts radiographs
  5. Assists in making models, retainers and other appliances
  6. Maintains a sterile work field
  7. Maintains and updates patient’s chart, as needed
  8. Coordinates with Labs regularly to ensure case quality in a timely manner
  9. Patient education in areas of oral hygiene, post-operative care and general information
  10. Follows established wipe down and sterilization procedure, including spore testing of the dental autoclave according to dental policies and procedures
  11. Maintenance, inventory and ordering of dental supplies, as needed
  12. Maintains equipment according to clinic guidelines and schedule
  13. Performs patient care calls and recalls, as needed
  14. Prepares, reviews, and sends pre-authorizations and service authorization updates for Medicaid patients, as needed, under the supervision of the Dentist
  15. Collaborates with patients and Dental Manager to best coordinate care
  16. Assist in scheduling of patients to complete treatment plan and extended care
  17. Assists in providing prompt, professional care to patients
  18. Maintains and fully understands the importance of patient confidentiality/maintains HIPAA compliance
  19. Functions always in a safe and professional manner
  20. Follows job related OSHA/CDC and prevention requirements
  21. Attends staff meetings and trainings, and participates in committees and clinic events
  22. Participates as a member of the dental team in outreach activities and trainings
  23. Follows all SCHC policies and procedures
  24. Assist with and participate in training, as needed
  25. Assists in advertisement and organization for specialty clinics and outreach events, as needed
  26. Assists in providing responses to dental patient inquiries
  27. Assist Dental Manager in specific tasks pertaining to dental program, expansion, and office organization
  28. Other duties as required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Graduation or equivalent required.  A minimum of 2 years Dental Assistant training and/or experience required, or equivalent skills, ability, and/or knowledge
