Strategic Analysis, Inc. (SA) is actively seeking applicants for a Sr. Scientist/Engineer position in support of programs within the Biological Technologies Office (BTO) at DARPA. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in one of the following or related areas: chemistry/biochemistry, bioinformatics, engineering (chemical, biological, or biomedical), materials science, microbiology, molecular biology, or systems biology. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. national security clearance at the secret level or above. Candidates with active clearance are preferred.  The level of effort for this position is between 50%-100%.

Sr. Scientist/Engineer: 
In this role, you will support a government Program Manager at DARPA in the development and management of programs focused on research into:
  • Flexible biomanufacturing processes that enable run-time reprogramming of fermentative biological systems.
  • Engineered biological systems for tunable polymerization that enable new elastomeric materials.
  • Technologies to characterize and assure the performance of engineered/synthetic biology systems in the environment.
  • Interventional strategies involving manipulation of gut microbiota to improve warfighter resilience to occupational stressors like sleep deprivation.
  • All candidates should be well-versed in systems biology either in the study of microorganisms or in biomedical applications. Exceptional
  • candidates will have additional experience in cellular bioengineering of prokaryotic and/or eukaryotic systems and in development of hardware or software for data acquisition and analysis. The ideal candidate also will possess prior government contracting support experience, preferably development of new start programs, source selection, and interactions with program performers at ARPA organizations.
  • Excellent organization and communication are required as is the ability to coordinate disparate, parallel tasks related to different programs.
  • Candidates must be willing grow beyond the specialty acquired in their formal education/training via ad hoc learning of new technical domains reflective of program requirements. A wide variety of tasks is associated with this position, including briefing support, data analysis, and general administrative duties.
