NP/PA Needed to Expand Urology Access

Job Description:

The NP or PA practicing within Urology will function within the context of a shared/collaborative practice and as an extender for the Urologists. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with consultative services in clinic at the discretion of the physician (consists primarily of gathering information and MS exams and presenting information to physician for review).
  • Gathering of patient history: reviewing records; interviewing patients, family members, other clinicians; collection of data from outside sources/records.
  • Review of cases with the physicians, to include face to face consultation with physician and patients.
  • Dictation of consult notes and chart progress notes.
  • Assist with office-based procedures
  • Assist in the OR
  • Manage post-operative patients
  • Serve as a liaison with the primary care providers.
  • Provide patient and family education-medications and diagnosis.
  • Integration of patient care between providers.
  • Writing orders for care and other medical consultations per discussion with attending physician.
  • Careful attention to all aspects of medical history and medication use.
  • Review of cases with supervising physician according to clinic policies.
  • Prescription and renewal of medications.
  • Obtain X-ray studies including but not limited to GI evaluation, CT scan, MRI, Ultra sound, etc.
  • Maintains current Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:

Nurse Practitioner
The NP must have the education, experience and state licensure to engage in the following activities:

  • health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseli
  • providing health assessment and screening activities;
  • diagnosing, treating, and facilitating patients' management of their acute and chronic illnesses and diseases;
  • ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic studies, excluding interpreting computed tomography scans, magnetic resonance imaging scans, positron emission tomography scans, nuclear scans, and mammography;
  • prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies; and
  • consulting with, collaborating with, or referring to other health care providers as warranted by the needs of the patient.

NP’s practicing at Mankato Clinic are expected to be accountable: (1) to patients for the quality of advanced nursing care rendered; (2) for recognizing limits of knowledge and experience; and (3) for planning for the management of situations beyond the NP’s expertise. TheNP practice includes accepting referrals from, consulting with, collaborating with, or referring to other health care providers as warranted by the needs of the patient.

  • Maintain licensure, pertinent certifications, prescriptive privileges and DEA number
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth through participation in continuing education, clinic committees, or professional organizations.
  • Utilize universal precautions to minimize potential exposure to hazardous conditions, pathogens or communicable diseases.
  • All NP’s must maintain BLS certification and certain positions require ACLS and/or PALS certification. Current BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of start date. Assume responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions.

Physician Assistant
The PA must have the education, experience and state licensure to work as a physician assistant in the state of Minnesota.
