PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION: The Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) was founded in 1987 to pursue and promote the conservation, development, and use of Tribes’ agricultural resources. Since our founding, the IAC has been guided by our member Tribes, and we have worked diligently to advance Tribes’ agricultural priorities on the more than 56 million acres of land in the United States that are under Tribal jurisdiction. In addition to elevating Indian Country’s agricultural priorities among policymakers, IAC also provides on-the-ground technical assistance, domestic and international marketing support, natural resource management, small agribusiness development, youth programming, and more to Tribes and individual producers across the United States and within Indian Country.
The Program Specialist, Strategy position is a dynamic role within the Intertribal Agriculture Council’s (IAC) Strategy Division. This position supports organizational program design, training development, data preparation, and evaluation activities that strengthen Tribal agriculture and food systems informed by IAC’s membership priorities. The Program Specialist performs structured assignments that contribute to the development of tools, resources, and processes used by IAC teams and Tribal producers.
The position ensures that the Strategy Division has the administrative, research, and coordination support necessary to deliver accurate, timely, and contextually relevant strategic resources to the broader organization.
This role will report to the Chief Strategy Officer. As the team grows, the reporting dynamic may shift to provide additional support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strategy Support & Program Development Assistance
Assist in the preparation, formatting, and organization of tools, templates, training materials, and technical resources developed by the Strategy Division.
Support senior Strategy staff by gathering information, assembling drafts, and compiling background materials for program development or strategic initiatives.
Organize and label field-derived data, engagement summaries, and program documentation to support evaluation processes and training content development.
Track training schedules, deliverable timelines, agreement deadlines, and program requirements as assigned.
Help maintain version control of strategy documents, ensuring accurate and orderly updates.
Support implementation of IAC membership-adopted caucus priorities by aligning technical assistance, tools, and outreach with Board- and membership-directed policy and programmatic priorities.
Information Management & Documentation
Maintain organized records, shared folders, and workflow documents for the Strategy Division.
Prepare draft summaries, meeting notes, and action item lists for review by senior Strategy staff.
Support the collection and preparation of data inputs needed for training modules, program assessments, impact summaries, or agreement reporting.
Track and document progress on assigned tasks using IAC-approved systems and tools.
Upload, update, and maintain internal tracking logs in accordance with IAC’s documentation standards.
Synthesize membership-informed challenges and producer feedback into recommendations that inform policy positions, training design, and systems-level improvements.
Training & Evaluation Logistics Support
Assist with logistical coordination for training sessions, workshops, pilot programs, and evaluation activities led by the Strategy Division.
Prepare training packets, slide decks, agendas, and materials under direction from Program Coordinator or Portfolio Director staff.
Help track participation, feedback, and follow-up action items from training sessions or evaluation activities.
Support communication with internal teams regarding training schedules, updates, and material distribution.
Provide technical assistance and coordination support to Tribal governments, enterprises, and institutions, as well as to individual producers, as appropriate to caucus priorities and program scope.
Collaboration & Internal Coordination
Work collaboratively with Strategy Division staff and Administrative Specialists to support cross-program workflows.
Coordinate task assignments with Program Coordinator or Portfolio Director staff and request clarification when needed.
Participate in Strategy team meetings, training, orientation, and learning sessions to stay aligned with division priorities.
Provide constructive feedback on tools, processes, or documents to help strengthen internal systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience in administrative coordination, Tribal-serving program support, or related fields may be substituted.
While a Bachelor’s degree is preferred; candidates with a robust and progressive level of lived experience working in and with Tribal communities are welcomed.
Ability to engage in culturally responsive and values-aligned communication when sharing information, coordinating tasks, or supporting Strategy Division activities.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documents, track timelines, maintain systems, and support multi-step projects.
Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures, request guidance appropriately, and communicate progress or barriers clearly.
Proficiency with Google Workspace, shared drives, and digital tools commonly used for coordination, documentation, and information tracking.
Capacity to work collaboratively with all staff across the organization.
Commitment to IAC’s mission, values, and principles of Tribal sovereignty, cultural respect, and community-centered service.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
It is a requirement for this position to have strong and adequate Wi-Fi access (1.5-2 Mbps download and 0.5-1 Mbps upload minimum) to be able to access systems, meet via Zoom or other systems, and operate and communicate effectively overall.
This position may require occasional travel, generally 2-3 days per month.
The candidate will be expected to have a home office.
Primary: Home office.
Secondary: This position will attend department events in the field. This can include exposure to adverse weather, uneven terrain, limited to no facilities, and the need to come prepared.
Plan travel with supervisors to avoid unplanned overtime.
Flex or adjust schedules (with approval) to stay within 40 hours
Get pre-approval for any work beyond regular hours.
Physical Requirements:
This position will have full days that will be sitting working at a computer.
This position will occasionally require full or partial days of visiting agricultural operations or on-site work on Tribal lands or within Tribal communities, outdoors, indoors, and across variable terrain.
There will be some days when setting up for events may be required. These may be indoors or on uneven terrain and may include lifting and carrying packages up to 50 lbs, setting up tables, canopies, and chairs, and taking down these items at the end of events.
