Finance Specialist

PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION:
The Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) was founded in 1987 to pursue and promote the conservation, development, and use of Tribes’ agricultural resources. Since our founding, the IAC has been guided by our member Tribes, and we have worked diligently to advance Tribes’ agricultural priorities on the more than 56 million acres of land in the United States that are under Tribal jurisdiction. In addition to elevating Indian Country’s agricultural priorities among policymakers, IAC also provides on-the-ground technical assistance, domestic and international marketing support, natural resource management, small agribusiness development, youth programming, and more to Tribes and individual producers across the United States and within Indian Country.
 
The Finance Specialist will support the work of IAC by assisting in financial tracking, the allocation of costs and ensuring that financial reporting is accurate. This role will report directly to the Finance Director.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assisting Finance Director with general Financial Operations:
  • Reconcile financial statements and verifying data.
  • Research discrepancies in financial records.
  • Respond to requests for the Year-end audit.
  • Review financial data to discover discrepancies.
  • Perform Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Process bills for payment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Computer Competencies:
  • Familiarity with financial software.
  • Proficiency with digital spreadsheets, Google Suite and database platforms.
  • Ability to research, analyze and manipulate data with various computer programs.

Communication skills:
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information to those less familiar with financial data.
  • Ability to perform written tasks such as filing financial documents and creating reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience working in Finance and a willingness to work as part of a team of professionals on issues supporting Native agriculture food producers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems.
  • Extremely proficient with Accounting software, (experience with MIP a plus), proficiency in Google Suite and similar software (Excel) with the ability to learn new or updated software.
  • A working knowledge of federal regulations and audit requirements is preferred.
  • Ability to function well and collaborate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Location:
  • Primary location: Work from home office/remote or similar environment.
  • Secondary locations: Light travel is required for internal and external meetings. 
  • Examples include the IAC Annual Conference or in-person team meetings at various times during the year.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain in a stationary position, working at a desk, 50% of the time.
