Interdisciplinary Resource Assistant

Job Description:

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in the development of resources and program support to enhance outreach, recruitment, and workforce diversity efforts in collaboration with field, RO and WO staff, non-governmental organizations, other government agencies, community organizations, academic institutions and other local or regional stakeholders.
  2. Assists in coordinating youth and community partnerships to enhance program and agency priorities, and provides technical assistance, training and development and implementation (agreement development, monitoring, and reporting).
  3. Performs data analysis, administrative tasks, organize/maintain program files and records and collect data on programs as needed
  4. Work with regional partners, schools, and colleges to plan and coordinate conservation education/interpretation and youth leadership event opportunities (i.e., community based cultural events, career fairs, etc.).
  5. Represent the USDA Forest Service at hiring events, presentations, and other recruitment opportunities
  6. Serve as an environmental educator for preschool – 12th grade and adult education on Conservation Education team
  7. Develop and maintain professional relationships with forest staff and partners for the enhancement and application of outreach programs. 
  8. Assist in the development of outreach and programmatic materials including lesson plans, interpretive scripts, informational guides, agendas, and presentations.
  9. Assist in preparation, coordination and leading (as necessary) for the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program 

Work Environment Description: The work involves typical office/virtual environments that are heated and cooled. May also involve working in outdoor environments, field visits, hiking or working outside in all types of weather

Eldorado National Forest

Duty Station: 100 Forni Road, Placerville, CA 95667

Project activities will take place on the Eldorado National Forest (NF).
Located in the central Sierra Nevada, the Eldorado NF is bordered on the east by the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Humboldt-Toiyabe NF, and by the Tahoe and Stanislaus NFs to the north and south, respectively. Eldorado NF offers an abundance of outdoor activities including fishing, boating, hiking, biking, skiing and climbing. The forest is home to much of the American River headwaters and the stunning Desolation Wilderness, and is in the heart of California’s historic Gold Country. People travel to Eldorado National Forest for its rich prospecting history, diversity of outdoor adventure and even beautiful vineyards.

Compensation and Benefits:
Weekly Living Allowance Amount: $750

Monthly Housing Stipend Amount: $1,000

Job Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience and Qualifications:

  1. Direct experience interacting in a public setting or customer service role.
  2. Experience working with Diverse or underrepresented communities.
  3. High level of organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent note taking.
  4. Skill or ability to communicate orally and in writing, in person and virtually.
  5. Demonstrated experience or skill with computer programs or software such as: Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, PowerPoint, publisher, TEAMS etc.)
  6. Ability to learn new skills quickly.
  7. Active listening and problem skills.
  8. Ability to work independently, collaboratively and in a team setting.

The Resource Assistants Internship is a rigorous and immersive, paid internship for individuals who are interested in conservation, natural and cultural resources, research and development, or other careers.

The program engages students, recent graduates, and underrepresented populations helping the Forest Service to attract and retain a diverse and inclusive workforce and carry out mission-critical work. 

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents 17 and up. If you are enrolled in an institution of higher education, especially a minority-serving one, you receive preference.
