Job Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer, the candidate will support the Missile Defense Space Warning Tool (MDST) team in developing the next generation of high fidelity, physics-based infrared space sensor simulations. The candidate will be part of a progressive, highly collaborate developmental environment with the recognition as the leader in agile software development practices within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). MDST fosters a culture of innovations and encourages both individual and team growth. The organization uses a fast-paced, trunk-based development methodology supported by advanced DevOps automation technologies including continuous integration, improvement, and delivery on a modern Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 platform. The candidate will be in a self-organized team environment, creating high fidelity, optimistic parallel discrete event simulators in C++ and innovative user experience with Java FX. He/She will be provided opportunities to explore new technologies and innovative software best practices and implement them within a production environment supported by a DevOps culture. As a Software Engineer on the MDST team, you will work collaboratively with team members, government customers, and product users to achieve the MDST product vision, help shape the development environment and process, work on user stories from discovery through demonstration, support MDST operations through BMDS exercises, events, and training, and experience with new technologies and software best practices.
  • Bachelor in Computer Science with a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience (alternative education/experience: Associate/9)
  • Experience in all aspects of the software development life-cycle including analysis, design, code, test, integration, and maintenance
  • Experience in the use of the UML and tools such as Magic Draw
  • Possess a strong understanding of object-oriented software development
  • Experience with the Linux operating system and development tools, e.g. GDB, DDD, vi/emacs, GNUMake
  • Possess development skills with C++ and/or Java
  • Experience with software development of models and simulations
  • Experience with CM and process, e.g. Git, Jira
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Desired Competencies/Experience/Certifications:
  • Experienced in User Interface (UI) design and implementation with Java
  • Experienced in software process automation including Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD)
  • Experienced in Linux scripting e.g. Perl, Bash, Python
  • Knowledge/experience in User Experience (UX) design and research
  • Knowledge/experience in any of the following:
  • Missile defense systems
  • Space-based sensor systems
  • Theater event system
  • Infrared sensors
  • Tactical communication systems
  • Clearance
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a secret security clearance
