Job Responsibilities
The Engineer will work with customers across an array of development and integration programs providing software engineering and lifecycle management services in support of embedded software products for military applications. He/She will serve as the Software Engineering subject matter expert for embedded software development, acquisition, and sustainment for Army Ground Vehicle Systems. Specific duties associated with this position are as follows:
  • Provide subject-matter-expertise (SME) and support in the requirements analysis, architecture, design, development, test plans, execution and of vehicle embedded software systems pertaining to system integration for Army Ground Systems.
  • Guide, collaborate with a  team of diversified engineers and technicians in executing system engineering practices consistent with defined organizational standards.
  • Provide software-specific input to project plans of execution in areas of scope, budget, resource needs, material needs, and schedule
  • Provide SME support to various program actions and activities to include meetings, vendor performance tracking, milestone planning, briefing  preparation, staff coordination, risk management, and decision document preparation
  • Provide SME support in the execution of design reviews, production and sustainment planning, certification planning and implementation, verification planning and compliance, requirements and specification assessment
  • Provide SME support and trade-space recommendations, interface management, logistic support analysis, change management, metrics generation, analysis and management, review of technical proposals for vehicle system products, and support of configuration management activities
  • Lead the development of the Statements of Work (SoW) for pre and post contract award documentation activities
  • Provide the Request for Proposal (RFP) language for software systems
  • Construct the Work Directives (WD), Performance Specifications, Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) which contain the software deliverables, Data Item Deliverables (DID), Software Engineering areas in Systems Engineering Plan (SEP), other contract/system engineering documents as required
  • Work with the software engineers/architects/testers to ensure successful software implementation, and support Post Production Software Support (PPSS) planning
  • Coordinate with internal and external agencies as required to ensure program objectives are met

    Other responsibilities will include:
  • Evaluate software test procedures, test event coordination, respond to problem reports, being able to root cause issues that may arise and troubleshoot the problem to the potential cause: i.e. hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures
  • Define and manage risk
  • Assess risk impacts and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Evaluate technical data related to an acquisition, program, and product development programs.
  • Provide SME input to acquisition decisions based on the assessment of the adequacy of software and interface acquisition documents
  • Maintain close working relationship with engineering and management personnel within the government and at other commercial facilities to provide advice and assistance, resolve problems, exchange information, etc
  • Provide technical direction to the contractor on the application and integration of improved designs and applications
  • Attend technical conferences and meetings with representatives of other organizations, government agencies, and private industry to discuss engineering plans and related issues, and coordinate operations

  • Bachelor degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Five (5) plus years of related experience
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • Desired Competencies/Experience/Certifications:
  • Knowledge in the area of ground systems embedded software engineering and life-cycle acquisition management for Ground Combat and  Tactical Vehicles
  • Prior demonstrated experience and training in computer engineering principles. software architectures, embedded software systems, and computer  programming systems
  • Possess technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capability to use these MS Office packages: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
  • Capability to develop executive level documents, summaries, and briefings
  • Ability to adapt to changing guidance and priorities
  • Understanding of existing adversary threat environment and emerging capabilities
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply SEI Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) level three (3) and above principles to software process  engineering, management, and control

  • Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain or already possess a secret security clearance
