Job Responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) and MDA's Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The mid-level Software Development Engineer should have experience in software design and development with primary responsibilities that shall include but are not limited to designing, development, maintaining, and testing code used for modeling and simulation of ballistic missile and aircraft models in support of MDS BMDS events.


  • Bachelor in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of eight (8) years' of relevant experience (acceptable alternative education/experience: Associate/12, Master/3)
  • A background in C/C++ and/or Java programming on UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms
  • Ability to be result focused, work within a dynamic team environment, be self-motivated, produce reliable software products, documentation, give attention to details, and automate unit tests within established deadlines
  • Capability of applying best practices and established patterns to existing code base
  • Capability to mentor less experienced team members on the same practices

  • Desired Competencies/Experience/Certification:
  • Modeling, simulations, and automation experience
  • Strong background in mathematics, physics or engineering
  • Knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters necessary to model ballistic missiles
  • Software troubleshooting and code optimization experience
  • Previous experience with modernization of legacy applications
  • Working knowledge of agile development methodologies
  • Experience identifying and resolving cybersecurity issues through use of static code analysis tools such as HP Fortify

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a secret security clearance
