Manufacturing & Production Engineer - Turbomachines

Job Responsibilities

Creare technologies rely on a wide spectrum of high-speed turbomachines that support industries in aerospace, defense, space exploration, and advanced energy generation. Our teams design, build, and fabricate customized, ultra-high-performance machines using gas bearings, liquid bearings, and rolling-element bearings along with custom motor/alternator designs, advanced thermal management strategies, and bespoke impeller geometries. These turbomachines operate at speeds approaching 1 million RPM, power levels ranging from less than 1 W to hundreds of kW, and temperatures from below 10 K to greater than 1200 K. Our machines typically require ultra-high precision machining in the sub-micron range, necessitating extreme attention to detail and development of new fabrication and assembly processes. Creare’s turbomachine technologies directly support critical missions where technical performance and extreme reliability are essential, including space exploration, scientific analysis on planetary rovers, zero-boil-off cryogenic fuel management for space travel, and high-density power generation for lunar infrastructure.

Our Manufacturing Engineering Department supports these complex projects throughout their full lifecycle—from early design and prototyping through final deliverable hardware. Manufacturing engineers collaborate directly with R&D teams including engineers, technicians, machinists, QA, and various other technical staff to provide critical technical guidance, optimize designs for fabrication and production, and ensure compliance with stringent aerospace requirements. We invite you to join the Creare team and apply your expertise in production management, precision manufacturing, and quality assurance within our dynamic R&D environment.

Specific duties include:

  • Develop process plans and procedures, and support manufacturing of precision parts and assemblies
  • Work directly, hands-on with internal resources such as machinists, technicians and external vendors during fabrication, inspection, cleaning, assembly and testing of turbomachinery hardware
  • Provide input during the design phase to improve manufacturability and ensure requirements are met
  • Consult on design revisions and process changes to advance timelines and improve technical performance
  • Configure, refine, and maintain electronic production management systems
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to streamline processes
  • Recommend appropriate fabrication methods for specified requirements and production quantities
  • Estimate and manage cost and schedule for fabrication activities and communicate status to project managers
  • Optimize fabrication schedules while considering technical risk and overall timeline
  • Work closely with quality assurance to ensure all project requirements are met and documented appropriately

Professional Requirements
  • Engineering degree (from ABET accredited institution) is required. Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication techniques, mechanical assembly, and technical drawing interpretation are required job skills. Prior production management or manufacturing engineering work experience (3+ years) in a precision manufacturing, aerospace, or cryogenic hardware environment is required.
  • Working knowledge of high-precision fabrication techniques (e.g., CNC machining, wire EDM, precision grinding), mechanical assembly, and technical drawing interpretation with GD&T are desirable job skills.
  • Demonstrated team building and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and concern for accuracy, and strong written and oral communication skills are also required. Previous direct experience with supply chain management and ERP software is desirable. Experience with ISO process controls or with fabrication of electronic assemblies, a plus.
