Creare is seeking an exceptional Space Programs Production Manager (PM) - a high-level leader responsible for the successful execution and delivery of manufacturing projects, from concept development through analysis, design, manufacturing, make/buy decisions, component production/procurement, assembly, testing, and customer delivery. These projects range from prototypes to low-rate production, demanding strict adherence to quality, schedule, and cost requirements. The PM provides both creative design insights and practical hands-on manufacturing expertise needed to bring mechanical prototypes and high-performance products to life. Unlike a general program manager who focuses on broad mission goals, the space programs production manager is dedicated to the end-to-end execution of delivering aerospace hardware for one or more Creare technologies. In addition to managing day-to-day product execution, the PM plays a critical role in shaping Creare’s future through strategic planning, risk management, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Core Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams, including design and manufacturing engineers, production supervisors, technicians, and assemblers. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages professional development and growth.
Production Execution: Own the project execution schedule (MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.) from design review through customer delivery driving adherence to cost, quality, and schedule targets. Optimize resource allocation, including labor, equipment, and materials, to meet schedule targets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and Design Engineering to resolve build issues, improve manufacturability, and manage design changes. Manage, mentor, and expand a team of internal & external manufacturing professionals and engineers.
Manufacturing Leadership: Provide overall direction on how a project is executed including make/buy decisions, supplier partnership and selection, and capacity planning to support overall program objectives. Build relationships with suppliers and manage vendor performance to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components.
Operational Standards: Establish and enforce operational standards, work instructions, and safety protocols to ensure mission success and employee well-being.
Process Improvement: Champion process improvements (Lean or Six Sigma Certification) to increase throughput, reduce cycle times, improve quality, and eliminate waste in the production process.
Risk & Metric Management: Identify potential risks and opportunities within manufacturing strategies and processes and develop risk mitigation and contingency plans. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like first-pass yield, labor efficiency, and scrap rates, implementing corrective actions when targets are missed.
Strategic Planning: Support Program Managers and Business Development Leads with expert advice on hardware fabrication, assembly, and testing, including cost-schedule estimates for scope changes to existing programs and new RFIs/RFPs. Identify opportunities to enhance Creare’s manufacturing capabilities in support of existing or new programs, inform stakeholders, and lead implementation.
Experience: Typically requires 12+ years in high-reliability production environments (aerospace or defense), with at least 7 years in a direct leadership role.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial). A master’s degree is a plus.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of manufacturing processes like fabrication, machining, assembly, integration, and testing, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Supply Chain Knowledge: Deep understanding of the aerospace and defense industry’s supply chain and the interactions of the entire value chain.
Certifications: Professional certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), or APICS are highly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling/tracking software.
