Mechanical R&D Engineer

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for exceptional engineers with a high interest in design and the passion, creativity, and skills to support a broad range of R&D in a multi-disciplinary environment. Mechanical R&D engineers provide the creative design talents and practical know-how needed to bring mechanical prototypes and high-performance products to life.  Projects begin with concept development and proceed through analysis, mechanical design, fabrication, and testing leading to development of prototypes, commercial products, and deployed systems. As a Mechanical R&D Engineer, the focus will be on electro-mechanical and thermal-fluid systems.

Key Elements of the Position

  • Variety of Projects. Work on several “clean-sheet” R&D projects at a time. Example current/past projects: spacecraft cryogenic systems, compact combustors, vacuum pumps for Mars rovers, compact heat exchangers, aerosol devices for administering pharmaceuticals, liquid nitrogen cooling systems for cutting tools, precision scroll pumps, and turbines with shaft speeds greater than 500,000 rpm.
  • Challenging and Interesting Work. Use statics, dynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, materials, and mechanical design to develop fabrication processes and design, build, and test experimental hardware, working prototypes, and specialized products.
  • Talented and Creative Colleagues. Team with other creative Engineers and highly capable support staff (Designers/Drafters, Mechanical Technicians, Precision Machinists). Project teams are small and highly interdisciplinary.

  • New England College Town. Our location offers exceptional opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast, excellence in schools and medical centers, and proximity to Dartmouth College. Additionally, NH has no State sales or income tax!
Professional Requirements
