Provide Communications Specialist services in support of M/OAA operating units and/or the Agency. Each unit will have requirements based on the office’s role and responsibilities. The Communications Specialist supports the M/OAA Senior Communications Advisor in daily outreach, research, coordination and liaison responsibilities for M/OAA. The position assists with official responses to U.S. Government-related reports and audits, serves as a managing assistant for the M/OAA internal and external website, and represents the M/OAA Communications Division in the absence of the Senior Communications Advisor. Some travel may be required.
The duties shall include, but not be limited to:
• Assisting the Senior Communication Advisor in drafting and editing written materials, including Agency notices, press releases, talking points, speeches, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders, including Congress, media, and partners.
• Tracking, and/or coordinating M/OAA communications, such as official reports and audits, Congressional inquiries, and media requests.
• Liaising with other communicators and communication staff on cross-cutting issues to establish and maintain effective working relationship with partners, and community representatives.
• Preparing and assisting in the execution of partner events including coordinating logistics.
• Serving as the M/OAA Social Media Liaison. Under the supervision of the Senior Communications Advisor, researching and developing and/or coordinating M/OAA specific content for the Agency including newsletter contributions, blog posts, tweets, status updates, pins, photos and videos
• Participating in the development and execution of the M/OAA Communication Strategic Plan.
• Drafting and coordinating content development from various divisions throughout the office for M/OAA at a Glance weekly newsletter
• Attending meeting, preparing meeting minutes, and briefing the Senior Communications Advisor on M/OAA-related meetings.
• Assisting in the advertisement and execution of internal events, planning logistics, and preparing post-event reports.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the M/OAA Senior Communication Advisor or by the Director of M/OAA including special projects as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ professional relevant work experience
• Exceptionally strong proofreading and editing capabilities.
• Ability to generate and deliver powerful verbal, graphic, and written communications.
• Knowledge of proper grammar and punctuation, formal report, and speech writing techniques.
• Ability to operate photographic/audiovisual equipment and use social networking tools.
• Knowledge of basic media relations principles.
• Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, set priorities and work independently.
• Proficiency in MS Office including, but not limited Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher (or other design software); SharePoint, database management software and shared networks.
