Ensures a safe work environment.

Repairs and maintains light duty construction equipment, including but not limited to electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks, pumps and compressors, buses etc. by performing the following duties.

Reads job order and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.

Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts.

Completes minor and major repairs on vehicles.

Overhauls gas or diesel engines.

Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments.

Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications.

Informs supervisor of any incidents involving injury, spills, equipment malfunction and/or damage.

Clerical duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities: may directly supervise 1 to 2 shop laborers or mechanic helpers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Peak policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Other duties as assigned.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations with other employees in the organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or certificate from a mechanical technical school and one (1) year light duty mechanic experience in a light equipment dealership or industrial equipment maintenance shop; or equivalent combination of education and experience to be able to successfully complete the tasks of the position.


Arctic experience is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and severe outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee’s ability to perform to the job standard. MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.

HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.

VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.

LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 70 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 70 pounds for 20 feet.

RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
