Summary of Responsibilities:

The Spiritual Life Minister serves as a member of the Residential Treatment Team and is responsible for the delivery of spiritual life programming and services for children in psychiatric residential treatment at AK Child & Family.  These services are voluntary, non-denominational, culturally sensitive, and age appropriate for the children.

*All positions at AK Child & Family may have responsibilities altered during the course of employment due to agency imperatives. 

As the only Sanctuary Certified agency in Alaska, we champion the Sanctuary Model, fostering safety and resilience during recovery from adversity.  The Sanctuary model is a blueprint for change, which at its core, promotes safety and recovery from adversity through the active creation of a trauma-informed community.  A recognition that trauma is pervasive in the experience of human beings forms the basis for the Sanctuary Model’s focus not only on the people who seek services, but equally on the people and systems who provide those services.

Pay:

  • $20.00/hour
  • 3% pay increase after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period.

Supervision and Coordination of Services:
  • The Spiritual Life Minister is supervised by the Director of Spiritual Life. 
  • S/he coordinates all program services with the Spiritual Life Director, Residential Supervisor, and the Treatment Program Supervisors in order to assure program coordination

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The Spiritual Life Minister has a demonstrated ability to work positively with children and adolescents.
  •  S/he has a working knowledge of child development and trauma informed care practices sufficient to understand the presenting issues of the students with whom s/he works.
  • Develops spiritual life programming that is consistent with the treatment program of the students.
  • Possesses a strong ecumenical understanding and orientation, which allows for working with all ethnic groups and is supportive of diverse spiritual and religious viewpoints.
  • Demonstrates a theological orientation that is consistent with the mission and core values of AK Child & Family.

Education and experience:

  • The Spiritual Life Minister holds at least a bachelor’s degree or 4 years equivalent formal training in a human service field including theology, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • S/he is a member in good standing with a recognized church, denomination, or local faith community.
  • Has at least two years’ experience working with youth in a community, residential, or clinical pastoral setting.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands upon the Spiritual Life Minister include the ability to

  • Communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and with written correspondence
  • Successfully operate word processing and computer equipment
  • The ability to utilize their personal vehicle to attend to responsibilities on both campuses and attend meetings in person or via teleconference.
