Summary of Responsibilities:

The Outreach Coordinator (OC) plays a crucial role in developing community outreach initiatives, promoting awareness of the Coordination, Advocacy, Resources, Education and Support (CARES) resources and services, and establishing connections with community stakeholders, including local businesses, educational institutions, governmental entities, and directly with families and youth. The Coordinator modifies outreach and engagement strategies to reflect the diverse perspectives, cultural backgrounds, life stages, and language needs of families. This role is designed to offer ongoing support and expertise by conducting screening, planning, implementing, and evaluating the needs of each participant.

  • The Outreach Coordinator will primarily work out in the community, cultivating strong relationships with providers and community organizations throughout Alaska.
  • The Outreach Coordinator will lead efforts to establish referral partnerships with local schools, shelters, behavioral health providers, hospitals, and clinics, while also working in conjunction with community organizations such as daycares, social services, religious institutions, and other entities that assist children and families.
  • This individual will actively engage with the community on behalf of the AKChild & Family CARES program, participating in and organizing events, distributing informational materials, creating referral networks, and exploring innovative methods to enhance awareness and connect families with available resources.
  •  A key responsibility of the Outreach Coordinator is to engage families and referral sources while building community awareness of the CARES Program and its services.
  • In addition to outreach efforts, the Outreach Coordinator performs various customer service and administrative tasks including addressing inquiries from families, youth, referral sources and insurance representatives, as well as accurately gathering information for client pre-authorizations.
  • The Outreach Coordinator will also have a small caseload of clients for care coordination and will participate in treatment team meetings.
  • The Outreach Coordinator conducts reviews to ensure appropriate service utilization from admission to discharge, assesses client satisfaction, and evaluates the quality of care provided.
  • The Outreach Coordinator adheres to standards and regulations as set forth by the agency, the Joint Commission, Medicaid and the State of Alaska.
  • The Outreach Coordinator is expected to abide by all safety rules and regulations of the agency.
  •  The responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator are carried out according to AK Child & Family policies, the AK Child & Family mission, and the AK Child & Family philosophy of care.  Assumes additional duties as assigned.

Pay:

* $65,000 +DOE
* Bonus in the amount of 1.5% of annual salary after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period and another at the 1-year anniversary.


Supervision and Coordination of Services:
  • The Outreach Coordinator is supervised by the Director of Community Programs.
  • They coordinate CARES services with all AKChild & Family departments in the daily operation of Community Programs and community partners. 

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The Outreach Coordinator exhibits strong supervisory and leadership capabilities essential for effective outreach, engagement and program development.
  • This individual possesses expertise in networking, recruitment, building community partnership, and care coordination.
  • The Outreach Coordinator demonstrates strong awareness of community resources for families in need.
  • The candidate should exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to initiate discussions and forge meaningful connections across diverse populations and settings.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are necessary to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • A self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive demeanor is expected, suitable for a community based, trauma-informed environment that values initiative, responsiveness, and strong engagement with families and community partners.
  • Willingness to travel primarily by vehicle to Anchorage and surrounding communities is required.

Education and experience:

The Outreach Coordinator must

  • Be at least twenty-one years old
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related discipline.
  • Have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with children and families in need, preferably with an emphasis on case management, care coordination or related support services.
  • 1-2 years of experience in community building or outreach is required, showcasing a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain relationships.
  • Experience in behavioral health, healthcare, social services, or childhood education, and knowledge of available services in Alaska, is essential.

Physical Demands:
  • The Outreach Coordinator is required to have access to AK Child & Family and community facilities for conducting meetings and agency-related activities.
  • The Outreach Coordinator must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license and maintain a properly insured personal vehicle to ensure reliable transportation for work-related duties. This includes the necessity to transport themselves and others as required for meetings with schools, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Timely and accurate submission of screenings, progress notes and other documentation mandated by AK Child & Family, as well as by insurance and referral sources, is essential.
  • The Outreach Coordinator should be proficient in navigating internet-based systems and electronic health records and must be capable of operating a copy machine and fax machine.
  • Additionally, they are expected to produce comprehensive youth records and prepare reports using a computer.
  • Furthermore, the Outreach Coordinator must be able to use their personal vehicle to fulfill responsibilities across all locations within AK Child & Family, attend meetings either in person or via teleconference, and represent AK Child & Family within the community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required for effective interaction within the agency and the broader community.
