Summary:

Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Vehicle Service Specialist is responsible for their assigned Chugachmiut-owned vehicles to conduct vehicle inspections and limited maintenance duties and keep and maintain relevant records of the work performed.

Major Responsibilities:
  • To inspect the assigned vehicle(s) monthly using Chugachmiut’s Vehicle Maintenance Check List located in the Vehicle Use Log. The form is to be signed and dated.
  • Operational inspections are to ensure equipment is in good and safe working order.
  • Each completed monthly Vehicle Maintenance Check List is to be sent by electronic copy or a copy sent to the assigned division director and Chugachmiut’s Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  • An annual safety inspection of Chugachmiut’s vehicles will be done. If a Vehicle Service Specialist is qualified to conduct such an inspection, they may be approved to do such work. If not, they will coordinate with the Fleet Maintenance Manager to complete the work.
  • Scheduled maintenance activities to be performed are identified by date. Dates scheduled for maintenance or service completed are recorded, including any repairs made and by whom the work was done.
  • Vehicle odometer mileage will be recorded at the time of each maintenance or service.
  • Any warranty maintenance service will be coordinated with the Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  • Fluid levels are checked. Fluid levels that need to be brought back to the manufacturer’s recommended levels would be performed by the Vehicle Service Specialist.
  • Vehicle fluids and other vehicle waste such as oil, transmission oil, windshield washer fluids, and oil and air filters will be handled in an environmentally, clean, and safe manner. The work includes the ability to dispose of such fluids and vehicle waste in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Oil and air filters will be changed twice yearly in April and October.
  • Tires need to be properly inflated. In the case of a flat tire, the Vehicle Service Specialist will need to be able to change the tire and get the flat tire repaired or replaced by working with the Fleet Manager.
  • Weatherization of vehicles may be assigned or maintained.
  • Items such as the First Aid Kit, Fire Extinguisher, and other required vehicle items such as Americans with Disabilities Act equipment are to be confirmed in the vehicle. If not, the Vehicle Service Specialist will replace these items with the Fleet Maintenance Manager.
  • Vehicle Service Specialists may be approved to drive vehicles to service areas or drive onto approved watercraft such as barges or ferries when Chugachmiut’s vehicles are recalled or are scheduled to be serviced or repaired in another Alaska town such as Anchorage, Alaska.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education Requirements:
  • Current State of Alaska Driver’s License
  • Required to be insurable as a Chugachmiut Approved Driver
  • Required to be able to perform tire changes using a given vehicle’s tire jack and tire wrench or other tools designed for such work.
  • The work includes being able to lift and move tires for possible transport or storage.

Hours of Work:
Hours of work are to be completed between the days and hours of Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug and alcohol free and non-smoking work environment.
