Nurse Practitioner: Psychiatry- Full-Time, Bolingbrook

Under collaborative agreement with a Mental Health Physician, provides comprehensive medical evaluation, education and management for clients throughout the life cycle that present for routine preventive, acute and chronic disease health care services at the VNA Health Center clinic sites.


Primary Functions:
  • Assesses and interprets medical and psycho-social histories; performs physical examinations; identifies problems; formulates a plan of treatment, provides education and referral (as indicated); and evaluates effectiveness of treatment, education and/or referral.
  • Consults with or refers clients with abnormal conditions or other medical, psychological or social problems to the collaborating physician or other appropriate referral source when indicated.
  • Orders and interprets the results of laboratory tests as part of the physical examination and health management.
  • Perform and oversee cardiac stress testing and other appropriate cardiac/vascular procedures.
  • Conducts health teaching and counseling during the physical exam, as appropriate, enabling the client to make informed choices about health and treatment options.
  • Completes client clinical record documentation in a timely manner specific to the clinical services provided, according to applicable policies and procedures.




  • Current RN licensure in Illinois, as well as current licensures to practice as an APN and to prescribe medications in Illinois; and current federal DEA certificate.
  • Training and/or internship as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Graduated from a Master’s program for Advanced Practice Nursing.
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Board Certification required.
  • CPR certification.


Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
2. Tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory senses intact.
3. Manual dexterity and strength sufficient to perform medical procedures.
4. Ability to drive a car.
5. Ability to deal effectively with levels of stress.
